05. Hike Tunnel Mountain
This moderate hiking trail snakes up Tunnel Mountain for a sprawling view over the town of Banff and surrounding mountains. This 5 km round-trip hike takes approximately 2 hours and can be hiked year-round. If visiting in winter, be sure to pack crampons and a picnic for the lookout.
06. Visit Two Jack and Minnewanka Lakes
For a view of the towering Mount Rundle, walk the shoreline trail along Two Jack Lake. This alpine lake is great for paddling, picnics, and simply taking in the scenery. While in the area, visit Lake Minnewanka, often called “Lake of the Spirits” for the archaeological sites and artifacts more than 14,000 years old that surround the lake. Don’t miss the Lakeshore Trail to Stewart Canyon. You can reach both lakes via the Roam Route 6 bus from downtown Banff and spot wildlife like elk and bighorn sheep along the journey.
